More than 20 members of our administrative and leadership staff underwent training to be certified to perform CPR and use AED life-saving equipment.. CPR and First Aid instructor, Mr. Scott Moon, led the group training. A physical education teacher in the Hilton CSD, Mr. Moon has trained many local teachers and coaches area in life-saving techniques.

The hands-on training specifically addressed cardiac and breathing emergencies. WICSD staff learned who certified trainers are allowed to treat in an emergency – whether an adult or student – and ways to assess what difficulty the individual may be experiencing. Staff practiced the sequence of steps one should take to help someone in distress before more advanced medical personnel arrive to take over.

The WICSD team practiced these life-saving techniques on electronic dummies. Staff used Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques and learned how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). All buildings in our district are equipped with AEDs, as are areas near athletic fields.

Their certification is good for two years.
